If a player is playing only for the fun of it, he should only stake that much amount of money in the game that he can safely lose and yet it would be exciting for him if he can end up being a winner with that kind of investment.
However, for those gamblers who are setting out to play with the purpose of returning as a winner and make some cash, it is important that he stakes for high limits if he wants to win a big pot. It has been found that $200 big bets are an optimum amount of shorthand play. So, if the limit game is being played for $5/$10, the player should be ready to stake $2000 so as to stand the chance of making some sizeable winnings.
It is absolutely crucial for players to be able to read their hands and recognize their actual and potential strength and able to distinguish between good and weak hands. Although the number of players participating in the game is also important, for a rookie Texas Hold ‘em player in a fixed limit game, starting with low limits of $1-2 is advisable.
The pre-flop round gives the players two hole cards and whether one should raise depends on what kind of hand he has been dealt with. If a player has a premium hand, such as a pair of ace or king or queen or jack or 10 card or an ace card with a king or queen card, he can safely raise the ongoing bet. If a player has a hand of ace and jack, king-queen, queen-jack, jack-10, pair of 9 or 8 or 7 card, and if belonging to the same suit then 10 and 9 card and an ace card with any rank except the face cards, he should wait for the flop cards to be dealt and can safely call the current bet one or two times.
